All afternoon and evening yesterday, Tuesday December 22nd, 11 Romance authors read complete short stories aloud on local (Ann Arbor) internet radio station PIVTR www.internetvoicesradio.com to raise money for the Capuchin Soup Kitchen www.cskdetroit.org
The Capuchin Soup Kitchen grows organic vegetables in its Detroit farm to supply veg for its soups, teaches Detroiters how to grow their own veg, has its own On The Rise bakery to provide bread for the soup kitchen and also to teach self respect and a trade to recovering addicts and incarcerees who are returning to society. It also provides a clean safe place where the homeless can come off the streets for a shower and a change of clothing…. and much more.
To donate to the soup kitchen using a credit card visit http://www.cskdetroit.org
The 11 authors’ stories can be heard for the next 2 weeks free “On Demand” internetvoicesradio.com/Arch-Rowena.htm There are 3 two-hour and one one-hour tapes. The mp3 recordings can be purchased for $3.50. Royalties go to the Soup Kitchen.
More details: Lillian Cauldwell lsaracauldwell@gmail.com
Rowena Cherry said this on Your comment is awaiting moderation. December 23rd, 2009 at 10:59 am
I thoroughly enjoyed all of the short stories. In the two o’clock to four pm session, Detroit author Cindy Spencer Pape read “Christmas at Morts” which was, most appropriately, about a Homeless lady.
Southern author Loretta Wheeler read a very clever short piece titled The Pan Man.
Brenna Lyons shared two science fiction/fantasy pieces. One Hour Burial was a powerful and horrific –in a tasteful and understated way– “what-if” tale.
The Stone Lord is a story that Brenna shares for free on her website, and developed from an interesting premise about magic that Brenna explained on air.

PIVTR 2010 Clean-Up
G' Morning All
I wanted to drop you all a line to officially make the announcement that there will be a whole new look to PIVR VERY soon.
This Sunday, I am setting aside some time to do a MAJOR cleanup to the site.
If you look at the home page you will see where we have a new setup for Streaming of everyones shows. The links at
the top of the page are the new and improved system that we have been working on over the past month or so, and these links (which may/ will take a change in shape) will be on every page within the site.
Check out the difference of the 2 links and I will explain the links:
The LISTEN LIVE link will be used for your LIVE shows. Listeners can simply click that button to listen live.
The ON DEMAND link is where they will now be able to listen to pre-recorded shows.
Normally we record your show, post the MP3 on your archives page, in the VIP section and on the mobile phone site (This hasnt been released to the public yet). Well this will be changing very quickly. We will be posting the recorded shows to the on demand so this will eliminate the MP3s from all archives pages. Now your archives pages can be used exclusively for your personal information as well as open a larger door for you to advertise your up and coming shows!!!! The VIP section of the website will also be eliminated (sorta) and turned into a RSS Feeds page where the pre-recorded shows will still be available for download/ purchase. There will be numerous options for purchasing the shows
1: Purchase an Individual show
2: Purchase a weeks worth of shows
3: Or purchase the entire months worth of shows.
Once a purchase has been made (week or month) listeners will automatically be updated with any new shows that are posted for that time period within the feed.
Now what does all of this mean to you and your loyal listeners?
MUCH easier navigation of the website,
Less maintenance and upkeep of the server, by consolidating everything,
To keep costs down for the daily maintenance,
To move forward with the latest technology available
Banner Advertising is at our fingertips with the new players (we are still working on a price list as well as incentives for advertising)
The ON DEMAND player will carry ONE months worth of shows on it and be continually updated (add something new, delete something old) and the RSS FEEDS page will still carry a min of 3 months worth of archived shows. The shows within the RSS feeds that we have built currently start at the beginning of November 2009 and will move forward from that date. Shows prior to Nov can still be made available as always by contacting Lillian with date and host name.
Website cleanup:
I will be clearing out a LOT of links that are wasting space and making things hard for people to navigate and find what they are after. A simple example is the 3 Military links. This will be consolidated into one link and then branch off from the central Military page, thus eliminating 2 links from the current menu. Tom can you send me some new poems to post, and Everett, can you send me some updated military info. These pages have not been updated in forever and need some immediate help.
NEEDED INFO:
Our blog send in your info weekly to Brittany (upcoming schedule, book signings, whats new etc) so that she can add this info to the site. Bubblewrap92@yahoo.com Please remember to CC Lillian and myself. Creating a mail list from your current e-mail with all 3 of us in it will make things quick and simple to contact us all in one shot J
EVERY host page: I need your upcoming schedule no later that Saturday of every week if you want me to keep your page updated. Right now there is only ONE host that does this weekly, and one that does it monthly. If we keep your pages updated with your next schedule show, then YOU open the door to MORE listeners!!!!! If you have no bio or explanation of what your show is about on your current archives page, I will need that sent in also. If we arent going to keep these pages updated on a regular basis, then we will consider eliminating all of the unused pages, and open up more server space for the next venture that is coming LIVE VIDEO STREAMS
2010 is coming fast, and we are planning on WOWing EVERYBODY, so lets all put a little effort into this and start this year with a GIANT BANG!
As always questions, comments, and/or ideas are ALWAYS welcome!!! If you have any, please fwd to myself and Lillian. I will be starting this venture Sunday morn around 4:30am CST so try to have the ideas in before then so that everything and everyones opinion can be considered with all of the changes!

Lillian Cauldwell is an author of one award-winning nonfiction book, "Teenagers! A Bewildered Parent's Guide." She writes multi-cultural paranormal mysteries for mid teens (9 to 14 years) and mentors junior and senior high school students to write their first books. http://lilliancauldwell.com and http://internetvoicesradio.com.
Carolyn Howard-Johnson is an award-winning novelist and poet. She is also the author of the multi award-winning HowToDoItFrugally series of books for writers. www.howtodoitfrugally.com.

28 Days Later
28 Days Later
The Brown Bookshelf is now accepting submissions for our 3rd Annual 28 DAYS LATER.
During the twenty-eight days of Black History Month, we’ll profile a different children’s or young adult author and children’s illustrator. On March 1st, we’ll announce the winner of our grand prize–a gift basket featuring every book profiled during the month, donated to a library in need!
We need your help. We’re looking for the best new and unnoticed works by African-American authors. From picture books to novels, books fresh off the presses to those that have lurked in the background unsung for months or years–whatever books you like, we want to know. We’re specifically looking for new books and books that have “flown under the radar,” that are children’s or Young Adult written by an African-American author published by a traditional publisher for the trade market.
Nominations accepted from September 28th to November 1st. Just post a comment here at the website, or email us at email@thebrownbookshelf.com. You can nominate as many books as you like. Also, check out the 2008 and 2009 28 Days Later campaigns to see who’s already had the spotlight.
So what are you waiting for? Nominate an author! And spread the word!

On Thursday, October 8, the U.S. Senate passeda resolution declaring October 20 as theNational Day on Writing!
October 20, 2009
In the National Gallery of Writing we’re collecting all kinds of writing from people from all walks of life—people just like you. Submit stories, poems, recipes, emails, blogs, even audio, video, and artwork.
Want more information on contributing to the National Gallery which will open to the world on October 20? Learn more about submitting your writing and about starting a gallery.
For those having trouble getting started, NCTE has created Tips for Writers and made some sample writings available. For those needing inspiration, popular authors and celebrities, such as Sarah McCoy who tells us "a day without writing is like a day without food," talk about writing.
Established by NCTE, the National Gallery and the National Day highlight the remarkable variety of writing we engage in today; provide a collection for research on whether writing today has risen to new highs or sunk to new lows; and help us help others to write better.

Great Books Week
PIVTR is participating in the National Association of Independent Editors and Author Blog Tour. All week, there are 7 questions that the participant must answer and post on their own blog before posting it on the NAIEA's site.
Monday: If I were stranded alone on a deserted island with only seven books to read over the next few years, I would like to have The Once and Future King by T. H. White, Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, Rebecca by Daphne Du Murie, War and Peace, The Hornblower series, Anne Perry's Mysteries, I Claudius and Claudius The God; the Kenneth Rober's Historical series; Charlotte's Web, Wind in the Willows. I'm greedy. What can I say?
